My grandfather makes a cameo in REVENGE AT THE GALLIANO CLUB when bartender Luca Lombardo lands in jail.
REVENGE AT THE GALLIANO CLUB is the conclusion to the
series.

The jail was run by the county, which hadn’t bothered to make it into a garden spot. The walls were a bilious
yellow and the floor was simple gray cement. The cell contained an iron cot topped with a ticking mattress, a flat pillow, and a woolen army surplus blanket folded at the foot, the words U.S. Army stenciled in white along the edge. A lidded bucket served as a toilet.
The cops finished
their coffee and left, clanging the heavy metal door shut. The sound reverberated off the cement block walls of the cell with indescribable finality. Luca tried not to panic.
Joe Sestito wasn’t a member of the Galliano Club, but they knew each other by name. Luca played first base for the Galliano Club baseball team and Sestito
played saxophone in the Lido Civic Band, so was always on hand to start Lido Industrial League games with the Star-Spangled Banner and play Take Me out to the Ball Game at halftime.
The only Italian in law enforcement in the county, Sestito had
been appointed to his position by the sheriff himself and had the reputation of being the toughest man in the entire department. He had dark blonde hair and a big-bladed Calabrian beak of a nose. As tall as Luca, it was rumored that he could twist a horseshoe. Luca had never seen it done, but if anyone could do it, his money was on the deputy sheriff.
Sestito leaned back in the desk chair and studied Luca through the cell bars. “Kidnapping and attempted murder? That’s big trouble.”
“I had a fight with a rich man who’s after my girl.” Another involuntary shiver shook Luca. “We were supposed to get married today.”
“Looks like it was a pretty good fight.” Sestito considered the bruises on Luca’s face. “Who won?”
“I put both him and his brother down in the second round.”
Sestito gave a snort. “You want some hot coffee?”
“Thanks,” Luca said.
A percolator and a box of doughnuts sat on a low wooden filing credenza behind the desk. Sestito passed a steaming tin cup and a plain cake doughnut through the bars. Luca carried them to the cot, grateful for the hot coffee but also for the gesture.
The severity of
his situation was beginning to take hold. Luca hunched himself around the warmth of the tin mug, wolfed down the doughnut, and thought about Tess. His Tessa.
Less than an hour ago, he’d revealed his deepest secret. It had shocked her, as he knew it would. Now he was in jail and he had no
idea what was going to happen. Tess had walked away from an arranged marriage to a wealthy man for him. Her strong-willed aunt was sure to be even more furious now that Luca was in jail. He had to hope that despite what she’d learned about him, Tess would defy the woman yet again.
“What happens next?” Luca asked Sestito.
“You’ll be arraigned.” Seeing Luca’s confusion, the deputy explained. “You’ll talk to your lawyer, decide how you want to plead and get to tell the judge.
He’ll set bail. If you’ve got the money, you’ll be out in time to have dinner with your girl.”
Luca understood the dinner with your girl part and none of the rest.
